ordinary days
Pacey came home from work after a long day of going over books and organizing menus and themes for the Icehouse.
"Joey?" he called out for her as he opened the door, but there was no answer.
Walking further into their apartment he looked around for her. He stopped when he spotted her, a huge smile appearing on his face. She was on the couch, asleep, a manuscript in one hand and a pen in the other. He swore she worked herself too hard.
He approached her slowly, leaning down when he reached her, kissing her forehead softly.
"Pacey?" she mumbled, stirring from her sleep.
"Hey, baby."
"You’re home?"
He laughed at her sleepiness. "I am. But go back to bed."
He kissed her softly again, but she opened her eyes, sitting up. "I must have fallen asleep. I was waiting for you."
He smiled; just hearing those words making all the stress of the day disappear. Knowing that Joey was waiting for him when he got home made everything okay. "I’m sorry. I got held up at the office."
"It’s okay." She smiled at him as he sat next to her, pulling her body against his. "How was your day?"
"Hectic. Yours?"
"Same old. Same old. I have to finish editing this book by tomorrow though."
He kissed her forehead softly, just enjoying holding her. "Do you want me to start dinner?" he asked.
"Nah. I’ll cook today."
He raised an eyebrow. "Joey Potter?" He put his hand on her forehead, checking for a temperature. "Are you sure you’re feeling okay?" he joked.
"Watch it, Witter. I have offered to cook occasionally." He raised his eyebrows. "Can I help it if my fiancé is an amazing Chef? You can’t blame me for taking advantage of that."
He laughed. "No, I can’t."
"How about we make it together tonight?" Joey suggested.
"Works for me. I have to look over you when you cook anyway. I don’t want you to burn the place down."
"Hah. You’re just a control freak."
"This from Joey Potter!"
"Hey! It’ll be Witter soon," she reminded him.
"And I can’t wait," Pacey said sincerely.
She smiled, getting to her feet. "Come on, Witter." She held out her hand to him. "Why don’t you show me how it’s done?"
He took her hand and stood up, wrapping his arms around her from behind as they walked into the kitchen.
He let Joey start on the dinner while he went to have a quick shower. When he came back into the kitchen fifteen minutes later Joey was busy cooking while she hummed to herself.
She had her back to him so he enjoyed watching her for a few minutes. He would never get tired of this. The normal day to day things. It didn’t seem like much. But the routine they had created in their lives, planning their day around each other, finding as much time together as possible, that was what was important.
Knowing that however much things seemed to suck sometimes, they always had each other. He had fallen in love with her all over again every single day since they’d moved in together, and he couldn’t imagine not waking up next to her every morning.
"Are you staring at my ass again, Witter?" Joey teased, breaking him from his daze. She hadn’t turned around and he didn’t realize she knew he was there.
"Well, it is a nice ass." He smirked.
She rolled her eyes at him. "Here, try this." He came towards her, letting her guide the spoon of sauce into his mouth. "How’s that?" she asked.
He put his arms around her and sighed in pleasure. "Mmm. Orgasmic."
"You’re actually complimenting my cooking?"
"I wasn’t talking about the cooking."
He grinned, leaning over to kiss her properly. Joey laughed, dropping the spoon back on the table and losing herself in his kisses.
