fairytales are never what you imagined

Note: Takes place Sometime around 1x10 "Hi, Society"

She was never meant to be in the middle. He was never meant to be the third wheel to their love story. There was no triangle. Just their friendship, her fairytale love story, and whatever the relationship had been between him and her. They were never meant to mix into this story of three friends (were they even that?) that couldn’t separate without breaking each other’s hearts.

She’d had it planned since she was six. She knew it the moment she saw him. This is the boy I’m going to marry. Then she met the other boy and she had placed him in the role of best man (when did that change?) without a second thought.

The plan hadn’t changed through the years. They had their ups and downs, break-ups and make-ups, but they always came back to each other. That was how it was meant to be, right? (If only she still believed that.)

She doesn’t know what to believe now. Because he broke her heart so badly the last time and it was the other boy who was the one that was there for her (isn’t he always?). He was the one that she finally gave herself to, and although she wants to deny it, she knows it means something.

And then her prince came back, but it was too late because the balance had already shifted. Butterflies had appeared and the future she had always planned didn’t feel right anymore.

But she doesn’t know what to do because she still loves him, but the other boy is getting to her and making her feel these things she’d never felt for anyone before. She doesn’t believe its love but it’s something and it’s scary and it doesn’t fit with her fairytale.

And she sees them together and her heart hurts because she would be the one to break that thing between them. The friendship that isn’t just a friendship based on money and privilege, it’s based on years of understanding each other and being there for each other despite people telling them not to. It’s a friendship she’s seen grow and strengthen and she loves her best friend and she doesn’t want them to lose theirs.

So she pretends everything is the same and places them all back into their predetermined roles and ignores the heartbroken look present in his eyes when she returns to the arms of her prince.

THE END!
