Another New Year
Haley watched the flames in front of her, rising up into the sky and burning away all her mistakes and regrets. She sat on the same bench she had shared with Lucas at every burning boat for the past ten years. They always sat and watched together, sometimes making fun of the tradition, and other times in a solemn silence.
Two years ago Lucas had burnt the Scott name from his life, hoping to rid Dan's shadow from his life. She hadn't had anything to burn.
One year ago Haley had burnt the Scott name from her life, her short marriage going up in flames as she and Nathan realised they needed to step back from it. Lucas hadn't had anything to burn.
This year as Lucas joined her on the bench, they knew this year would be the start of something new. And she hoped that whatever it was, she wouldn't have to burn it next year.
